From Milan to Paris, Utrecht to Francfort, the ULYSSES Ensemble persues its wanderings through contemporary musical heritage. For ManiFeste-2018, these young musicians are joined by the solists from the Ensemble intercontemporain and address the virtuoso writing of Michael Jarrell’s concerto or a 20th century masterpiece, Intégrales by Varèse. Learning the repertoire and un-learning the gestures acquired: the philosophy of Lachenmann, present like a narrator next to the ULYSSES Ensemble, is at work. In Musik mit Leonardo, the fragmented text by Leonardo de Vinci vibrates under the instrumentation. Zwei Gefühle, two emotions? The desire to know and the fear of being known.
