Hèctor Parra has always been motivated by scientific advances, and, more specifically by hubris, by quantitative excess, astrophysical theories. For his opus magnum, Parra has imagined a voyage into a massive black hole through a dialogue with the astrophysician Jean-Pierre Luminet. "Would we be ourselves, as suggested by a few of today’s physicians, a holographic projection of a deeper reality, coded in the confines of the universe?" Beginning with a storyboard that could have come from the film Interstellar, the music and electronics will unfurl over time, analogous to the visual mirages created by the gravitational forces that "fold" the universe. These are very concrete issues concerning the composition of space, the dialation and condensation that Hèctor Parra encountered, like his predecessor Iannis Xenakis who opens this evening’s concert with his octet, Anaktoria.
