Digital Artist, OpenEndedGroup
Marc Downie (PhD), (b. 1977), is a digital artist, filmmaker, and programmer whose pioneering approach to digital art frequently combines three signature elements: non-photorealistic 3D rendering; the incorporation of body movement by motion-capture and other means; and the autonomy of artworks directed or assisted by artificial intelligence. Together with his OpenEndedGroup colleague Paul Kaiser, he creates art for façade, gallery, dance, stage, cinema, and virtual reality.
OpenEndedGroup works have appeared as public artworks at Lincoln Center, Barclay Center, and the York Minster (UK); as performances at Sadler’s Wells, Lincoln Center, BAM, the Barbican, and many others; as exhibitions at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, the ICA Glasgow, the ICA London, MIT Media Lab, the Wexner Center, and others; and as 3D films at MoMA, the NY Film Festival, the Berlin Film Festival, Sundance, and more.
