Founded by Pierre Boulez in 1976, the Ensemble intercontemporain is dedicated to the music of the 20th century and today. The Ensemble’s 31 soloists are led by conductor and composer Matthias Pintscher. United in their passion for creation, they take part in the exploration of new musical territories alongside composers from whom new pieces are commissioned on a regular basis with the support of the Fondation Meyer. The Ensemble’s creative growth is nourished trhough inventions and encounters with other forms of artistic expression: dance, theater, video, visual arts…. In collaboration with IRCAM, the Ensemble develops unique projects featuring new multimedia technologies.
