After his initial studies in harmony, counterpoint, ananlysis, orchestration, and composition (notably studying with Allain Gussin), Franck Bedrossian (b. 1971) studied under Gérard Grisey and Marco Stroppa at the Conservatoire de Paris. To learn to use electronics after an initial, very “musique concrete” approach at the Conservatoire de Paris, Bedrossian followed the Cursus program at IRCAM where the approach is more structured and analytical. He has been taught by Philippe Leroux, Philippe Manoury, Brian Ferneyhough, and Tristan Murail. He also took Helmut Lachenmann’s class at the Centre Acanthes and those taught during the Académie internationale de l’ensemble Modern. A resident at the Villa Médicis in Rome from 2006 to 2008, he has taught composition at the University of California, Berkeley since 2008.
