Upon completion of his studies in composition, piano, and choir direction at the Barcelona Conservatory, Hèctor Parra (b. 1976) followed the Cursus program at IRCAM, courses at Royaumont, at the Centre Acanthes, and at the Haute école de musique de Genève, studying with Brian Ferneyhough, Jonathan Harvey, and Michael Jarrell. After a period of creating visual arts and a fascination for painting, notably Cézanne’s oeuvre which he attempted to give a pictorial texture, Hèctor Parra turned towards evolutionary biology and theoretical physics, notably for his opera HypermusicPrologue with a libretto written by the physicist Lisa Randall (premiere 2009 during the IRCAM festival Agora), StressTensor, and Mineral Life.
