Heiner Goebbels (b. 1952) composed radio plays (based on texts by Heiner Müller), works for ensemble and full orchestra (La Jalousie, Surrogate Cities to cite just two), directs his musical theater productions (for example Ou bien le débarquement désastreux, Noir sur Blanc, Max Black, Eraritjaritjaka, StiftersDinge), and creates sonic and video installations (at the Centre Pompidou, Mac Lyon, documenta). From 2012 to 2014, he was the artistic director of the Ruhrtriennale and produced Cage’s Europeras 1&2, De Materie by Andriessen and Partch’s Delusion of the Fury. He is a professor at the Institute of Applied Theatrical Studies at Gießen Univsersity, president of the Hessen Academy of Theater, and has won several awards in the domains of both theater and music. His CDs are available on ECM records.
